I am buying a car from a dealer that was previously owned for only four months. Can I find out who owned it?
The dealer has excellent positive feedback and the car has only 1700 miles on it so I'm not too worried but I'd like to know why the first owner only had the car for four months. I have access to the CARFAX report, if that helps.
Well there are two ways which i know of. The first owner of the car, as soon as he buys the brand new car, he is given a certificate of registration which has his name and the model of the car. when the dealer buys the car from the owner, he asks for the certificate of registration (CR). Now to change the name from the first owner to the dealers name would take a certain expense and administrative work, if i were a dealer, why would i change the name of the CR, which will cause me hassle and expense, if i am just going to sell it? so just as for the CR it will most likely be there.
2. Check the Official Receipt (OR) for sure the name of the first owner would be there
